After a few versions (the first was too human) of me trying to figure things out, here's one of the final versions of Abe that I'm pretty into for the series. This is more "my" Abe. Such a great character.

Thanks for looking at my work. Finishing second to last Conan cover and beginning Abe Sapien. In the new year I will be working on a small series of large canvas'. 3-4 pieces at 6-7 ft. in height. Also from the pics, you might see some new male and female figures. The peices I started since I got in the studio. Hope to have close to 30 paintings by summer.....looking for that artbook deal and possible gallery here in LA.

It's official! Signed the lease today! By tomorrow I will be painting.....well...moving and then painting in my new studio. It's in KoreaTown. Good neighborhood and nice space. A place I will comfortable in and not care about destroying parts of (unlike working out of my home). Kent has signed the lease to the studio space beside mine so it's gonna be like old times again....except with working privacy;)

Can't wait. Been missing working in a real space for a long time.

Also.... Talking with publishers. I will know soon if there will be an Art of Jason Shawn Alexander book for next year!

...starting back to work. Finishing another Conan cover (I'll have to do a step by step with the next one) and starting a new one. I'm finishing the colors on The Secret. Should be all finished next month. AND....... I just received the first script of the Abe Sapien mini-series! Story and script by Mike with art by lil ol' me.

Cover process

So, before I split for Europe, I need to get out another Conan cover.
For the next week, you'll see this updated.
Here's the initial combination sketch for the piece. The drawings were done separately and scanned in the computer. Then moved around and placed where I liked the composition and could send it out for approval. Now I've printed it out, small, and projected the drawing onto the canvas and traced it there. After a quick spray of Urethane (so I don't lose the drawing) It's ready for paint.

No mo' myspace...

I had a page on myspace for a while and have recently deleted it. Something started feeling weird about having my work, that I take very seriously, on a website primarily based on people hooking up. That's a HUGE over simplification and sounds as though I should get off my high horse. But, no, it's a good site. Fun stuff. But I just don't want my work on there. This is the primary site for the news about upcoming projects, paintings, etc. So, if that's what you're looking for, stop by regularly. I'll be updating like a fiend.

There are 2 new covers on the Studiosection8 site. The finished versions of the ones on here.

Also, before I go to Europe for a few weeks at the end of this month, I will have 3 Conan covers completed and hopefull all of The Secret! I'll post some of that soon. AND! The Escapists is coming out now....SO GO GET IT! Finishing the last (#6) installment NOW!

TONS of me on the shelves for a while. Hopefully that's a good thing.
