your skin tones and lightings are incredible on these two pieces. there's a lot of story telling here in spite of the absence of elements. great great job!
Flesh tones..... Anything I do involving flesh tones feels like pure luck. It's all in paying attention and using colors you're not comfortable with. "flesh tint", white, burnt sienna, paynes grey, greenish umber, a couple of light blues, sepia extra, and sepia extra warm... and a yelloow ochre.
every time i look at my reference I see new colors. I see all blue shadows, the reds that cut and define body parts and everything in between. There's no real technique, it's all mostly making sure I have every color my eyes might see, available and trying to not be scared to use them;)
Your figures are always so rich, like you can tell which part of them is emanating heat and which would be cool to the touch. The hands and eyelids, the disappearing into the darkness, it does me in. More beautiful than the last, again.
"Anything I do involving flesh tones feels like pure luck" so you seem to have a lot of luck héhé! there's a lot of feeling in those paintings, and you transmit the pleasure you had when painting them!

Lovely.
The perfect marriage of craftsmanship and emotion.
Your art conjures rebirth as well death, or they are the same blanket.
Defiantly one of the great American painters.
